MENDICANT TRIANGLE
The other conquest. After the fall of the Aztec capital, the evangelization by religious orders began in all the new territories conquered.
In this first stage the Franciscans, Dominicans and Augustinians participated, establishing their centers in the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
We start by visiting what was the largest monastery in Mexico, that of the Franciscans, the first mendicant order that arrived, and then we go to the area occupied by the Dominicans, the self-proclaimed ‘dogs of God’ who were in charge of the Holy Inquisition. We finish with the visit to the temple of San Agustín, site of the national library for a long time and that was the house of the Augustinian order.
