LOS CARMELITAS AND SAN ÁNGEL

Located in the south of Mexico City, the picturesque neighborhood of San Ángel is well preserved, with the former monastery ‘del Carmen’ that marked the life and customs of its inhabitants. Due its mild climate, large rest houses were built, and today some of them are the sites of famous galleries and Mexican and international haute cuisine restaurants.

We visit the museum of the old Carmen monastery where we learn about the monastic lifestyle in the viceregal era, the Casa del Risco with its beautiful baroque fountain, as well as the nieghborhood’s public squares such as La del Carmen and San Jacinto and its cobbled streets. On weekends we enjoy the famous Saturday bazaar, selling handicrafts and in the parks that feature the exhibition and sale of works by local artists.
